Beijing Overview

 
Beijing is the capital of the People’s Republic of China, the country’s political, culturaland international exchange center.


Beijing,with 14 districts and 2 counties , is located to the northern part in the North China Plain with a land area of 16,410.54 km2. Beijing’s terrain is northwest towering and southeast low. Western, northern and northeastern parts are endless mountains while the southeast is a slowly sloping plain to the Bohai Sea. Eastern is adjacent to Tianjin and rest in junction with Hebei Province. Beijing’s climate is typical of warm temperate semi-humid continental monsoon with hot and rainy summers, cold and dry winters and short springs and autumns.

Beijing’s GDP reached RMB1.60004 trillion Yuan in the year 2011, an increase of 8.1% over that of 2010.By the resident population of 20.186 million at the end of 2011, Beijing’s per capita GDP is RMB80,394 Yuan , equivalent to $ 12,447, close to the level of developed countries. Three industrial structure are 0.9:23.4:75.7.Beijing has formed a service-oriented industrial structure. The financial industry and the cultural and creative industry(CCI) have become an important pillar industry.

 

Corporate headquarters: Beijing is the main gathering place of the headquarters of the domestic large enterprise groups and multinational overseas regional headquarters. More than 100 regional headquarters of multinational have been located here. 44 headquarters in 2011"Fortune 500" are in Beijing, ranked second in the world’s cities. 

 

 

Finance: There are totally 2,935 banking institutions in the city containing the head office, branches and their sub-branches with 151,000 employees. In 2011 outstanding deposits of financial institutions in Beijing including foreign ones was approximately RMB7.5 trillion Yuan with loan balance of RMB3.96 trillion Yuan.

 

Technology: In 2011, the annual R&D expenditures is RMB93.25 billion Yuan, equivalent to 5.83% of the local GDP, with 288,000 working staff. Patent applications and patents granted were 77,955 and 40,888 respectively. A total of 54,000 technical contracts were signed with total turnover of RMB189.03 billion Yuan, an increase of 19.7%.

 

Education: As of 2011, there were a total of 52 colleges and universities and 78 research institutions in the city with 241,000 school graduates. The school-based college students were 579,000 in the city’s 89 general institutions of higher learning.
